A Joomler’s Tale of stories, antidotes and observations from a Joomla User who’s been there, done that, and lived to tell about it.
After over 10 consecutive years building and consulting as a Joomla specialist, in 2016 I took an unofficial leave of absence from the Joomla Project. I took a job where Joomla wasn’t a tool that we were using and I just didn’t have the time to be as involved as much as my heart desired.
During my time away I was forced to learn new things, question and re-evaluate some of my thoughts, improve my knowledge and skills in some areas and gain some new perspective on the software project I loved so dear.
In addition to my new found revelations and opinions on open source software projects, I also was given the opportunity not long ago to consult on a larger Joomla project. It has been a great opportunity for me to dip my toes back into the Joomla world and not only see from a distance but truly get reacquainted with my first CMS-soulmate.
In this talk, I want to share my thoughts about Joomla, where we were and where I see it now. I want to guide an honest conversation about what I see as huge successes that the project should champion. I want to offer my humble critiques about what could be improved.
‘Joomla, there and back again’ will be a time to reflect on the past, gain some (one’s) perspective, and cast some glances to what the future could possibly hold for the Joomla Project.
